Wait! I know what you're thinking! Yes, that is my real name. No, I didn't make it up when I became an English teacher, because really, that's not very original now, is it? I know we've just met, but give me some credit here.
I've been teaching English to middle schoolers for over 25 years. There is something great about this age: students begin to take that leap from little kid thinking to something more mature; their brains experience so much growth in such a short window, unlike any other time of their lives. Plus, everything is still funny/engaging/cool to them, which is a bonus.
On a personal note, I've had two daughters come through this program, so I can say without doubt that this is an awesome place for your child. My oldest will head off to USofC this year as a freshman, so I suppose I will need to start watching college football instead of my beloved NY Jets.
Prior to my family's big move to Greenville in 2008, I taught 6-8 graders in St. Augustine, Florida for many years. St Auggie is a great small community, where I attended college (Flagler) and met my wife before settling in to teach. We love that while Greenville is bigger, it still manages that small-town vibe. That vibe carries down to Langston as well; it truly is a family atmosphere here, and one that is difficult if not impossible to replicate in larger schools.
My family and I continue to be excited to be connected with the Langston community for the coming year. The commitment, energy, and enthusiasm really shows in everyone connected with the school, from kids to adults alike. I can't wait to see what the year brings!
